With Mr. Singh (NYS Teacher & Hip-Hop Producer) as their element mentor, the kids in this eleemnt of GOSIP focused on Hip-Hop production skills involving computers and various software programs as well as honing in on the writing process. Through vigorous workshops, the kids were able to learn about the history of Hip-Hop and the way today’s music newly defines Hip-Hop as something else. Kids learned about how to express social issues within their rhymes as well as evoking positive images for today and tomorrow’s youth; both men and women.
With a focus on producing a concrete positive Hip-Hop album, in three months, Mr. Singh and the Hip-Hop kids completed their album in May of 2009.
Under the guidance of their mentor Mr. Singh, three teenagers, 2 boys and 1 girl formed the “90z Babiez.” With 6 months of hard work and perseverance, the 90z Babiez completed and released a positive Hip-Hop album in June of 2009. In a quick two months, over 100 people have downloaded the self-titled debut. It’s amazing what teenagers can do with a little encouragement.
